MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Thursday launched its new service improvement program with the creation of Driver’s License Renewal Offices (DLROs) at various shopping malls nationwide.
This as the LTO officials signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with its first DLRO partner, the Gokongwei family-owned Robinsons Malls.
"We congratulate the LTO for its initiative to bring its services closer to the people and to make license renewal more convenient for them. With various reform and modernization programs being implemented, we can look forward to much-improved services at the LTO," Department of Transportation and Communications Secretary Jun Abaya said.
Under the modernization program, the LTO will open DLROs in all major malls nationwide to provide applicants with alternatives in renewing their licenses.
"We also thank Robinsons Malls for being the government's first DLRO partner, which entails waiving valuable rental fees for the use of their mall space," Abaya said.
Under the MOA, Robinsons Malls will provide office space for DLROs at 24 of its malls across the country for a period of 10 years. For the first time, the LTO will be dealing directly with mall owners to ensure that all of their malls will open DLROs.
Currently, only nine out of these 24 Robinsons Malls host LTO satellite offices, which are operated by private entities.
