MANILA, Philippines – With typhoon Ineng entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) will place its personnel on blue alert on Tuesday evening.

NDRRMC Executive Director Alexander Pama said the agency will be placed under blue alert by 6 p.m., Tuesday.

Pama said typhoon Ineng with international name Goni will enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat” which will likely affect Visayas and Mindanao by Wednesday. This prompted the agency to declare blue alert status, requiring half of NDRRMC’s staff to be watchful and ready for contingencies.

The weather bureau said typhoon Ineng is expected to affect the western part of Luzon, including Metro Manila by Thursday until weekend.

Currently, the typhoon's maximum sustained winds are at 170 kilometers per hour near the center and its gustiness is up to 205 kph.

Aside from NDRRMC, local disaster risk reduction and management councils and the public are advised to monitor the weather.
