Roxas meets with NPC to avoid rifts with LP
MANILA, Philippines - Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel "Mar" Roxas II on Tuesday met with some members of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC).
According to a report from ABS-CBN News, Roxas and some NPC lawmakers met at the headquarters of the Liberal Party in Cubao, Quezon City to ensure that the alliance between the two parties will remain intact for the 2016 national elections.
NPC president and House Deputy Speaker Giorgidi Aggabao said in a text message that the meeting with Roxas was important to "prevent or repair a rift between parties," according to a report from GMA News.
However, it would still be up to NPC founder Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco whether the party would support the presidential bid of Roxas in the 2016 polls.
On the other hand, Sen. Grace Poe and Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero are also set to meet with members of the NPC on Tuesday night.
President Benigno Aquino III recently endorsed Roxas as the presidential candidate of the ruling Liberal Party for next year's elections.
