Bullet hits Bongbong's Manila office

Camille Diola - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines — A bullet hit the glass panel of Sen. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s satellite office on Roxas Boulevard.

Security guard on duty Sofronio Romatan said he discovered a bullet hole at 3:25 p.m. after he returned to his post in front of Marcos's office at Sunset View condominium tower.

"I just went inside the building for a glass of water and when I came back, I noticed that bullet hole," Romatan said in a state news report.

The incident followed reports that the government-registered SUV vehicle assigned to Marcos's office was also hit by a bullet parked in front of the building where his office is located a few months ago.

Marcos, meanwhile, said on Monday that the bullet did not penetrate the office due to the metal plate place there for security purposes.

"Upon my request the police are already investigating this incident. Until the result of the investigation is completed, it is best not speculate," Marcos said in a statement.

The senator said he hopes it only a stray bullet that hit his office and not related to his work in the Senate "or anything with political color."

Meanwhile, Guadencio Catapang of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group of the Southern Police District fund fragments of a bullet slug between the front glass panel and the second metal wall of the office.

The Scene of the Crimes Operatives of the Philippine National Police, meanwhile, are still determining the kind of firearm used in the incident.

In a separate interview with state media, Marcos discounted the possibility that the possible attack has something to do with the Bangsamoro Basic Law pending in the Senate committee he is heading.

He is set to submit the committee report on the measure aiming to establish a Bangsamoro region in Mindanao this week.
