Police execs paid P3.8-B taxes in 2014
MANILA, Philippines - Police officers nationwide paid P3.88 billion in individual taxes to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) last year.
PNP spokesman Chief Supt. Generoso Cerbo said the amount represents taxes withheld from 150,000 active duty police personnel.
Citing records from the PNP Finance Service, Cerbo said total taxes withheld by the PNP in 2014 was equivalent to P25,886.93 tax withheld from each PNP taxpayer.
Withholding tax on compensation is the tax withheld from employees receiving purely compensation income.
In the PNP, individual tax withheld is automatically deducted from the monthly salary, Cerbo said.
The taxes withheld become obligations of the PNP to BIR and remitted to the account of the tax collection agency every year, Cerbo explained.
According to BIR records, self-employed individuals and professionals in the private sector paid only an average of P18,813 in income tax last year. This was only slightly higher than the average P16,407 income tax they paid in 2010.
