PAGASA: El Niño to cause erratic behavior of typhoons

Patricia Lourdes Viray - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday reminded concerned government agencies to take precautionary measures amid the affects of the ongoing El Niño phenomenon in the country.

During a press briefing, PAGASA warned that the El Niño may affect the rainfall patterns in the Philippines and may cause erratic behavior of storms.

"Adverse impacts in the Philippines include below normal rainfall and higher than normal temperatures in varying degrees from place to place and from time to time," PAGASA said in a statement.

The weather bureau upgraded its El Niño Watch or dry condition advisory to El Niño Advisory due the current development.

"PAGASA will closely monitor these conditions and regular updates and advisories shall be issued as appropriate," PAGASA said.
