Luzon to get warmer temperatures, afternoon thunderstorms

Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Slightly warmer temperatures and afternoon thunderstorms are expected by the middle of this week as the dry season approaches.

The northeast monsoon or amihan is nearing its end, according to Alvin Pura, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather forecaster.

Pura said Luzon, including Metro Manila, can expect slightly warmer temperatures with isolated thunderstorms by Wednesday due to the easterlies or warm air from the Pacific Ocean.

“Temperatures will be slowly warming up in the next few days due to the easterlies,” he said.

Cold and dry air from China and Siberia brought by the northeast monsoon will recede gradually in the next days, Pura said.

However, the northeast monsoon is seen to last until the first half of March, PAGASA said.

Residents of the Visayas and Mindanao will also experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the next five days, Pura said.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon until tomorrow, PAGASA said.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.
