Binay daughter: Bataan, Laguna properties declared in my father's SALN

Patricia Lourdes Viray - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Makati City Rep. Abigail Binay on Thursday belied allegations that some properties of her father Vice President Jejomar Binay were not declared in his Statement of Assets, Liabilites and Net Worth (SALN).

According to a report, the Vice President and his wife former Makati Mayor Elenita Binay owned 18 properties but only 10 were declared.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel, Abigail clarified that the said properties in Mariveles, Bataan were in her father's SALN.

The six lots in Laguna, which were used as a flower nursery for Elenita's business, were declared as one property.

On the other hand, two properties in Bataan were clustered and were also declared.

"It was clustered together so there is still disclosure as the Bataan property is concerned," Abigail said.

The Makati lawmaker added that the acquisition value instead of the fair market value should be used in computing the net worth of a government official. She explained that the Vice President declared his properties in acquisition value which was why the values were low.

Abigail noted that the properties were acquired almost 20 years ago and should not be brought up in the middle of corruption allegations against her father.

"It has nothing to do with any Senate inquiry because we're talking about the transactions that are very recent," Abigail said about her parents' properties.

The Senate on Wednesday resumed its inquiry on the corruption allegations against the Vice President.
