PPCRV gets Comelec accreditation anew
MANILA, Philippines - The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) will again be the citizen’s arm of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the 2016 polls.
The Comelec has granted the application for accreditation for the coming polls of the PPCRV, which has been assisting the poll body since the 1992 elections.
“Wherefore, the Commission resolves to grant the petition and accredit the PPCRV as citizens’ arm of the Commission in connection with the May 9, 2016 national and local elections,” said the Comelec in a Jan. 29 ruling released last Monday.
Being a citizen’s arm, the Catholic-backed PPCRV will serve as field poll watchers in polling precincts and will conduct voter’s education activities, among other advocacies. They will also help the poll body in its voter registration efforts to ensure the integrity of the voters’ lists.
“All these, taken together, prove that PPCRV deserves another opportunity to directly serve the country by being a citizens’ arm of the Commission for the May 9, 2016 elections,” the Comelec noted.
The Comelec added that the PPCRV is expected to be non-partisan and impartial.
