Palace wants MILF training video, US court docs sent to probes
MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang will not investigate new evidence pinning down the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) following its deadly January 25 encounter with police commandos in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
In a press briefing, Presidential Communications Operations Office Herminio Coloma Jr. said they will just await the findings of the Senate and House inquiries into the Mamasapano incident.
Coloma said any evidence that may help uncover the truth behind the botched police operation should be submitted to the congressional probes.
"Kung sinuman po ang merong impormasyon na makakatulong doon sa pagalam ng katotohanan... dapat lang siguro na isumite ito doon sa pagdinig na kasalukuyang ginaganap para masama 'yan sa pagturing ng mga mahalagang kaganapan at sa pagbabatid ng katotohanan," Coloma said.
Among the new evidence that surfaced was a cellphone video showing members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) training how to attack a military column amid the rebel group's ongoing peace process with the Philippine government.
On Monday, Sen. Alan Cayetano also cited US court records linking the MILF and Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir, alias Marwan, who was the subject of the Mamasapano operation.
Presented by Cayetano to the media, the court records revealed e-mail exchanges between Marwan and his brother, who is detained in California.
Marwan had kept Rahmat Andhir informed of the situation in the Philippines, even providing reports of clashes between government forces and groups supposedly protecting him, including the MILF.
Citing records from the US district court of Northern California, Cayetano also stressed that Marwan had told his brother about the involvement of the US in these conflicts through the use of Orion spy planes and Predator drones.
