NBI identifies 'Mamasapano' video uploader

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) identified one of the suspects behind the uploading of the video apparently showing the massacre of policemen in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

A state news report said Friday the NBI's cybercrime experts successfully enhanced photographs of the five suspects' faces from the viral video.

The video uploaded on YouTube earlier this week has been deleted, but copies are still circulating on Facebook.

NBI agents will soon inspect the site where 44 Special Action Force commandos were killed on January 25 by rebels from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Bangsamoro Freedom Fighters.

The NBI said uploaders of the video may face charges under Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

In a Senate hearing on Thursday, MILF peace panel chairman Mohagher Iqbal condemned the killers appearing in the video as worse than terrorists.

Iqbal also denied that MILF members were those who finished off injured SAF commandos as seen in the footage.

The Commission on Human Rights, meanwhile, appealed to the public to stop the spread of the recording out of respect to families still in mourning.
