Lacson: Purisima may be charged for breaking chain of command
MANILA, Philippines - Resigned Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Alan Purisima may face raps for breaking the chain of command, according to former senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson.
In an interview with radio dzBB on Sunday, Lacson said that Preisdent Benigno Aquino III's acceptance of Purisima's resignation is for the good of the country.
"Pwede siya managot ng usurpation of authority," Lacson noted on Purisima.
Lacson added that former Special Action Force (SAF) chief Getulio Napeñas asked for his advice and admitted that it was a mistake on his part for reporting to Purisima, who was suspended at the time of the Mamasapano operation.
Napeñas was "torn between two loyalties," according to Lacson, referring to Purisima and PNP officer-in-charge Leonardo Espina.
Purisima allegedly led the Mamasapano operation by "remote control" which led to the death of 44 SAF members during a bloody encounter with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters.
According to a report, Aquino and Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas are expected to appoint a permanent replacement for Purisima in the coming week.
