MANILA, Philippines - Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin "Junjun" Binay Jr. was detained, dragged into Senate session hall and was allowed to go home on Thursday.

Binay stressed that it was never his intent to to refuse the subpoena of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.

"I will no longer participate in the proceedings," Binay said, adding that he has no more reason to attend Senate hearings.

Sen. Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III approved the release of the Makati mayor afterwards.

Binay was forcibly brought into the Senate Session Hall upon the order of Pimentel to bring him before the Senate.

Binay's counsel earlier said his client wants to remain under detention at the office of the Senate  until he ready to testify.

The arrest warrant was issued on Thursday morning for Binay who was charged with contempt for refusing to attend Senate hearings on the alleged overpriced Makati Science High School and Makati City Hall Building 2.
