MANILA, Philippines - Makati Rep. Abigail "Abby" Binay said the allegations against their family is a demolition job for her father, Vice President Jejomar Binay, who plans on running for president in 2016.
"Alam namin na it is a continuing demolition job against our family," the Makati lawmaker said in an interview aired on television.
Vice President Binay is facing corruption allegations while Makati Mayor Erwin "Junjun" Binay is facing contempt charges for refusing to attend Senate hearings on the allegations against their father.
"We all know that if my father is not number one in the ratings, why would they even spend time and money demolishing the vice president?" she said.
Abigail noted that if the reason for holding Senate hearings was about the overpriced Makati City Hall building, there was no need to bring up Hacienda Binay, Pag-IBIG, Boy Scouts of the Philippines and birthday cakes.
"Is this an admission on the end of the senators that this is really against the vice president?" Abigail added.
On her brother Junjun facing arrest for contempt, she said they had legal basis why he refused to attend Senate hearings.
The Makati lawmaker noted that they have provided all documents needed for the investigation and that there was no need for her brother to attend the hearings.
"Why would you want to open yourself up to another several hours of being berated? Lahat ng dokumentong hiningi, binigay. Ano pa kailangan ninyo itanong?" she said.
Sen. Nancy Binay, her sister, was emotional in front of the press on Monday when asked about the contempt charges that their brother is facing.
On the other hand, their brother Junjun said that he will be waiting at Makati City Hall for his arrest.
