Cayetano withdraws authorship from Bangsamoro law

Patricia Lourdes Viray - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano withdrew his co-authorship from the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law on Monday, a day after members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) killed more than 40 policemen in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

Cayetano said he doubts the commitment of the MILF to the peace agreement.

"So I’m withdrawing my co-authorship of the BBL and I seriously doubt kung mabubuhay pa itong peace agreement," Cayetano said.

At least 40 policemen were confirmed killed in the clash in Maguindanao.

"I’m disgusted about what’s happening and I really doubt  na mapapasa ito dahil sa nangyari," Cayetano added.

Sen. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. suspended all Senate discussions and hearings related to the Bangsamoro Basic Law on Monday.

Marcos condemned the act of violence by the MILF, which signed a peace agreement with the government.
