(UPDATE) 1 killed, 36 wounded in Zamboanga blast

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (Xinhua) - At least one person was killed and 36 others including a policeman were wounded in a car bomb explosion in front of a pub house in Zamboanga this afternoon, local authorities said.

The powerful blast took place beside the Fantasy Disco Bar at 3: 15 p.m. Local time. The explosion destroyed a car, two tricycles as well as a number of commercial buildings and the bus terminal just across the road. Traffic was temporarily closed as a result of the blast.

Alex Mabalot, information officer from the city's police station, said one of the injured is in "critical condition".

Police Senior Superintendent Angelito Casimiro, city police director, said they could not determine yet as to the type of the improvised bomb that was used pending ongoing investigation. Authorities are still probing the people behind the attack and their motive.

Casimiro said no group has claim responsibility from the blast.
