Storm cuts pope's Leyte trip short
MANILA, Philippines - Pope Francis will return to Manila from Leyte hours earlier than planned as tropical cyclone 'Amang' makes its way to the province.
Interior Secretary Mar Roxas II said the Vatican decided to cut the pontiff's Leyte visit short because of inclement weather. Roxas said the government is ready to adjust with the changes in the Roman Catholic leader's schedule of activities.
On his third day in the Philippines, the pontiff celebrated Mass in Tacloban City, Leyte before the typhoon 'Yolanda' survivors amid rain and strong winds, wearing a raincoat over his vestments. He was welcomed by a huge crowd that did not mind the rain.
After the Mass, the pontiff went to the archbishop's residence in Palo, Leyte to have lunch with Yolanda survivors. He will return to Manila earlier than the original 5 p.m. flight back to Manila.
