Metro Manila temperature dips to 18.9ºC
MANILA, Philippines - Temperatures in Baguio City and Metro Manila were coldest yesterday since the onset of the northeast monsoon or amihan last October, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
PAGASA weather forecaster Denison Estareja said temperature in Baguio City was recorded at 10.6 degrees Celsius at around 5 a.m., while that in Metro Manila was 18.9 at 5:15 a.m.
The temperatures yesterday beat the season’s record lows: 11 degrees Celsius in Baguio City on New Year’s Day and 19 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila on Christmas Day.
The weather bureau earlier advised the public to brace for colder temperatures in the coming days, noting that the months of January and February are generally the coldest in the Philippines.
PAGASA said Baguio’s lowest recorded temperature was at 6.3 degrees Celsius on Jan. 18, 1961.
Meanwhile, the lowest temperature recorded in Metro Manila was 15.1 degrees Celsius on Feb. 4, 1987 and Dec. 30, 1988.
