MANILA, Philippines - Budget airline Cebu Pacific (Cebu Air Inc.) of taipan John Gokongwei is facing stiff sanctions over widespread complaints of flight delays and cancellations during the holiday season.
Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya said Cebu Pacific is facing sanctions which include fines, suspension and even franchise revocation from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) after the low-cost carrier was found responsible for delayed and cancelled flights during the height of the holiday rush.
“The flying public deserves much better service than that. We sympathize with those who lost precious hours with their families and loved ones on Christmas, and we will see to it that Cebu Pacific will answer for any possible mismanagement,” Abaya said.
Cebu Pacific vice president for corporate affairs Jorenz Tañada said in a text message that the airline would continue to cooperate with the government.
