Professor, teacher among top gov’t workers in 2014

MANILA, Philippines - Three government educators received much deserved recognition recently for their contributions to alternative learning and for elevating the state of academic research, particularly in agriculture.

Romeo Seguban, Professor II at Isabela State University, designed and fabricated various apparatus that helped increase farming productivity and profitability in Isabela.

His inventions are being used by farmers who now benefit from lower farming inputs and post-harvest losses, as well as higher labor efficiency.

Moreover, the awards and recognition he earned locally and abroad have brought honor not only to himself and the university but also to the country.

Edgardo Tulin, university professor at Visayas State University in Leyte, undertook research that yielded discoveries and pioneering studies in biomedical research and molecular diagnostics, which can be used to treat serious metabolic diseases in humans and to detect virus in plants.

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) said that hope is what Concepcion Tababa gives to out-of-school youth, indigenous communities and rebel returnees.

As Master Teacher II at Tubungan Central Elementary School in Iloilo, she innovated programs like the DAL-ON TA (Delivery of Assistance towards Literacy on New Techniques and Approaches), which increased her students’ literacy.

Some of her previous students are now gainfully employed here and abroad.

Seguban and Tulin were both awarded the Presidential Lingkod award, while Tababa received the CSC Pagasa award, during rites for the 2014 Outstanding Public Officials and Employees held Dec. 15 at Malacañang.

Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. handed out the annual awards given to civil servants on behalf of President Aquino.
