MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III on Friday accepted the resignation of Health Secretary-on-leave Enrique Ona.
Ona is under investigation for the questionable vaccine procurement by the Department of Health (DOH), which he approved in 2012.

Earlier reports stated that Ona filed a resignation this week and gathered his personal belongings in his offices on Monday.
Ona extended his leave of absence “to afford the President time to assess the contents of the report that he has submitted.”
The former Health Secretary earlier filed a month-long leave of absence due to health reasons.
DOH Undersecretary Janette Garin was the officer-in-charge while Ona was on leave.
