Public urged to be disciplined during papal visit

MANILA, Philippines - Catholic bishops and the Jesuits have asked the Catholic faithful to respect the barricades and avoid pushing other people when they attend the activities of Pope Francis next month.

In a YouTube video posted in the Papal Visit website, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) and Jesuit Communications (JesCom) said: “No pushing. Let us avoid hurting others. Let us respect the instructions and respect the barricade.”

Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. said the government wants to see a Feast of the Black Nazarene-like scenario where devotees would take part in the mass and join the parade of the image back to the Quiapo Church.

Organizers have asked the faithful to actively participate in all events of Francis during his five-day apostolic and state visit from Jan. 15 to 19.

During the three masses on different dates at the Manila Cathedral, Rizal Park and near Tacloban Airport, the public is encouraged to sing along when church songs are played and to join in the responses.

The faithful are also asked to maintain peace and order during the ceremonies.

They must also wear clothes suitable to the weather and the occasion. They  were also asked to watch their children so they would not get lost and give attention to the elderly and those with disability.

They should also listen to the organizers and officials to maintain the orderliness, health and security of everyone.
