MANILA, Philippines - Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao is set to receive an honorary rank of Commodore from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
The Commodore rank in the PCG is equivalent to Brigadier General or "one-star general" in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). Pacquiao is currently a Lieutenant Colonel in the AFP's Reserve Force.
PCG commander Commodore George Ursabia announced on Tuesday that Pacquiao will officially be granted the honorary rank of Commodore in line with his membership with the PCG Auxiliary (PCGA).
Pacquiao earlier volunteered to be a part of the PCG and participate in its programs and activities.
The Sarangani lawmaker and boxing icon will be a part of an executive squadron.
“It is an elite squadron that also includes some important people or personalities,” Ursabia said.
The PCGA assists in the enforcement of maritime laws and promotes maritime safety in the country. The auxiliary group is also in charge of maritime search, rescue missions and marine environment preservation.
