TRB chief wants details of graft case
MANILA, Philippines - Toll Regulatory Board chief Edmund Reyes has asked Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales to provide him with documents and other details of the reported graft case filed against him in connection with the P728-million fertilizer fund scam.
In a letter to Morales dated Dec. 10, Reyes, a former congressman from Marinduque, said he only learned of the filing of charges for the violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act from the newspapers.
“I have not received any notice, order, resolution, subpoena or complaint affidavit and supporting documents from your good office informing me of the existence or pendency of any preliminary investigation being conducted against me,” Reyes said.
He said he was not given any opportunity to be heard and submit evidence to defend himself.
He asked the ombudsman to furnish him with a copy of the complaint affidavit as well as supporting documents, and allow him reasonable opportunity to submit a counter-affidavit.
He also requested Morales to hold in abeyance the filing of the charges against him until she has reviewed the case, including his defense.
