MANILA, Philippines - Public satisfaction with President Aquino slightly improved in the latest survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

In the SWS Nov. 27-Dec. 1 poll, Aquino obtained a net satisfaction score of +39 with 63 percent satisfied and 24 percent dissatisfied, which is up by five percentage points from +34 (59 percent satisfied; 25 percent dissatisfied) in September.

Results of the latest SWS survey were printed in BusinessWorld yesterday.

Aquino’s satisfaction score rose by 10 points in balance Luzon to a “good” +39 (62 percent satisfied, 23 percent dissatisfied) from a “moderate” +29 (57 percent satisfied, 27 percent dissatisfied) in September.

His rating remained “good” at +46 in Mindanao, despite an increase of three points from +43.

It also stayed at “moderate” at +23 in Metro Manila, up by a point from the previous survey.

In the Visayas, satisfaction with Aquino dropped by a point to +42 but stayed at the “good” category.

Satisfaction with Aquino’s performance likewise improved by 10 points in urban areas to +37 (61 percent satisfied, 24 percent dissatisfied) this quarter, the SWS said.

Malacañang expressed gratitude for the renewed trust in President Aquino, as indicated in the SWS survey where his numbers managed to recover from a slump he suffered the past few months.

“We note that from the decline last June for the second quarter, so far the numbers have consistently been going up, and we extend our appreciation to the people for their continued support for President Aquino and his administration,” deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said.

Valte attributed the rebound to the “good work that continues to show and the efforts that the administration puts in to push for programs that would directly benefit the people.”

“Again, this will just encourage the administration to push further with the reforms,” Valte said.

Aquino’s rural net satisfaction score stayed “good” at +41 (64 percent satisfied, 23 percent dissatisfied), up by a point from September.

By socioeconomic grouping, the President obtained a 22-point increase in his ratings among class ABC to a “good” +49 (65 percent satisfied, 16 percent dissatisfied) from a “moderate” +27 (58 percent satisfied, 32 percent dissatisfied) in September.

Public satisfaction with Aquino remained “good” at +45 (66 percent satisfied, 22 percent dissatisfied correctly rounded) among class E, seven points higher than September’s +38 (60 percent satisfied, 22 percent dissatisfied).

He received a “good” +37 rating (62 percent satisfied, 25 percent dissatisfied) among those in class D, or the “masa,” three points more than the +34 (59 percent satisfied, 26 percent dissatisfied) previously.

By gender, Aquino’s net satisfaction rating stayed “good” for both men and women. Male respondents rated him +36, higher by five points from September’s +31, while female respondents gave him a +42 net score, also up by five points from +37.

SWS classifies net satisfaction scores of +70 and above as “excellent”; +50 to +69, “very good”; +30 to +49, “good”; +10 to +29, “moderate”; +9 to -9, “neutral”; -10 to -29, “poor”; -30 to -49, “bad”; -50 to -69, “very bad”; -70 and below, “execrable.”

The survey used face-to-face interviews of 1,800 adults nationwide.

It had sampling error margins of plus or minus two percentage points for national percentages and plus or minus six percentage points each for Metro Manila, balance Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao. – With Delon Porcalla
