PAGASA sees brewing LPA east of Mindanao

Louis Bacani - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has spotted a weather disturbance forming outside the country.

In an interview with ANC's Headstart, PAGASA forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said a possible low pressure area (LPA) was located around 2,000 kilometers east of Mindanao or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Aurelio said there is a chance that the potential weather disturbance will enter the PAR. He added that that one or two tropical cyclones has been expected this month.

Parts of the country are still being affected by tropical cyclone "Ruby" which has weakened into a tropical depression on Tuesday after battering several areas in Luzon and Visayas.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Ruby was last located at 80 kilometers southwest of Ambulong, Tanauan City, Batangas and was moving west at 13 kilometers per hour (kph).

Ruby is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Wednesday evening.

PAGASA warned that Ruby and the northeast monsoon or "amihan" will cause rough to very rough sea conditions over the seaboards of Luzon, where fisherfolks and those using small sea craft are advised not to venture out.

Tuesday forecast

The agency said in its 24-hour weather forecast that Metro Manila and the provinces of Bataan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas and Mindoro including Lubang island will have rains with gusty winds with moderate to rough seas.

The rest of Central Luzon and Calabarzon, Bicol region and Mimaropa will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Cagayan Valley, Cordillera and Ilocos region will experience cloudy skies with light rains. Visayas and Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
