PAGASA: Stronger rains, winds in Metro Manila tonight

MANILA, Philippines - Tropical storm 'Ruby' may have weakenend further but it is still expected to affect Metro Manila, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said before Monday evening.

In a televised press briefing, PAGASA weather forecaster Jori Loiz warned that Ruby will be at its nearest to Metro Manila between 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. when gusty winds and occasional moderate to heavy rains may be experienced.

"We can say that at that time, mas ramdam natin yung mas malalakas na hangin at ulan," Loiz said.

Metro Manila is still under public storm warning signal no. 2 among other several areas.

A heavy rainfall warning (yellow alert) also remains hoisted over the metro along with Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan and Nueva Ecija.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the center of Ruby was last spotted at 15 kilometers Southeast of Laiya, Batangas and was moving west northwest at 13 kilometers per hour (kph).

It was packing maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph.

PAGASA said in a new update that Ruby made its landfall over Laiya, Batangas at 5:45 p.m.

Ruby is expected to be at 240 kilometers west of Quezon City by Tuesday afternoon.

It will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Wednesday evening.
