Heavy rainfall warning up in Metro Manila, 8 Luzon areas
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a yellow rainfall warning for Metro Manila and several nearby provinces on Monday morning due to Typhoon "Ruby."
Based on PAGASA's color-coded rainfall advisories, a yellow warning is raised when 7.5 to 15 millimeters (heavy) of rainfall was observed within one hour and expected to continue in the next two hours.
Under the heavy rainfall warning system, flooding is possible in low-lying areas and the public is advised to monitor the weather condition.
The yellow rainfall warning was issued for Metro Manila, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon.
The said areas had been placed under storm signals due to Ruby, which was located at 70 kilometers northeast of Romblon, Romblon or 60 kilometers southeast of Torrijos, Marinduque at 7 a.m. today.
It weakened while traversing Sibuyan Sea, now packing 120 maximum sustained winds of kilometers per hour with gustiness of up to 150 kph.
It was moving west northwest at 10 kph.
PAGASA said the typhoon will get closer to Metro Manila as it slams into Northern Mindoro between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
In its weather bulletin on Sunday night, PAGASA said Ruby will be felt in Metro Manila today and will peak at around 8 p.m. to 10 pm.
