MANILA, Philippines - Several flights and sea trips were canceled due to the imposed threat of super typhoon "Ruby" (international name "Hagupit") on Friday.
The Manila International Airport Authority announced that 18 Cebu Pacific flights are cancelled between Manila-Butuan, Cebu-Butuan, Cebu-Surigao, Cebu-Siargao and Cebu-Tandag.
The following flights are canceled:
· 5J 785 (MNL-Butuan)
· 5J 786 (Butuan-MNL)
· 5J 787 (MNL-Butuan)
· 5J 788 (Butuan-MNL)
· 5J 791 (MNL-Butuan)
· 5J 792 (Butuan-MNL)
· 5J 219 (Cebu-Butuan)
· 5J 220 (Butuan-Cebu)
· 5J 223 (Cebu-Butuan)
· 5J 224 (Butuan-Cebu)
· 5J 873 (Cebu-Surigao)
· 5J 874 (Surigao-Cebu)
· 5J 875 (Cebu-Surigao)
· 5J 876 (Surigao-Cebu)
· 5J 877 (Cebu-Siargao)
· 5J 878 (Siargao-Cebu)
· 5J 3891 (Cebu-Tandag)
· 5J 3892 (Tandag-Cebu)
Passengers may avail of free rebooking for travel within 30 days from original departure date or request for a full refund or travel fund, according to Cebu Pacific.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard said that around 2,000 passengers are stranded due to 36 trips canceled on Friday. A number of 163 vessels, 127 rolling cargoes, 10 motor bancas and 58 vessels taking shelter are also stranded.
The following is a breakdown of stranded passengers, vessels, cargoes and canceled trips:
· Butuan – two vessels (taking shelter)
· Cagayan de Oro – 68 passengers, two vessels
· Catanduanes – 106 passengers, nine vessels (taking shelter), 19 rolling cargoes, one motorbanca, one vessel (taking shelter), 10 canceled trips
· Cebu – 24 passengers, 94 vessels, six motor bancas, four canceled trips
· Dapitan – 13 passengers, four vessels, seven rolling cargoes, 39 vessels (taking shelter)
· Maasin – 104 passengers, 33 rolling cargoes, one canceled trip
· Manila – 1,273 pax, two vessels, two canceled trips
· Masbate – 110 passengers, 10 vessels, 20 rolling cargoes, one motor banca, nine canceled trips
· Ozamis – 30 passengers, 16 vessels (taking shelter)
· Sorsogon – 333 passengers, two vessels, 78 rolling cargoes, two canceled trip
· Surigao – five passengers
· Tacloban – one rolling cargo
· Tagbilaran – 136 passengers, six vessels, three rolling cargoes, two motor bancas, eight canceled trips
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration advised that storm surges up to four meters may hit coastal communities in Northern Samar and Leyte, including the capital Tacloban City, and possibly the Bicol Region and Surigao provinces.
Typhoon Ruby has evolved into a super typhoon, according to United States weather specialists.
