MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago assured that she will run for president once she is clear of cancer.

"I'm going to think about it. First of all, I have to get rid the last few vestiges of cancer," Santiago told members of the press during the launch of her book on Wednesday.

Santiago said that she is currently in a state of remission and in a stable condition now.

"I have to be in the best of health if I'm going to be president of the Philippines because there are so many things that need to be done simultaneously," Santiago said.

The senator noted that those who are aspiring to run for president in 2016 should utilize social media which is the "best way of communicating these days."

"Anyone who wants to run for president in 2016 must make sure to use the social media in the proper way as accepted by the netizens," Santiago said.
