"This small island—one of the Philippines’ 7,107—shot to the top of our list this year with a recent claim to fame: It’s now home to one of the new seven natural wonders of the world, Puerto Princesa Subterranean River," Conde Nast Traveler writer Jenna Scherer, said.

1-CARE Party-list Rep. Edgardo Masongsong authored House Resolution 1611 which seeks to reignite the enthusiasm to protect and preserve the natural charm of Palawan, which was named "Land of Beautiful Safe Harbor."

"Being awarded the Top Island in the World, Palawan brings honor and pride to the country. Such recognition is also a major boost to the Philippines' abundant potentials in eco-tourism," Masongsong said.

The lawmaker noted that Palawan, a narrow archipelago of 1,700 islands, take pride in its rich and diverse ecosystem with vast rainforests, beautiful coral reefs, majestic mountains, primeval caves and pristine beaches.

Being voted as Top Island in the World, Palawan bested 147 other islands, garnering a rating of 88.750.
