Former Sen. Vicente Paterno dies

MANILA, Philippines - Former Sen. Vicente "Ting" Paterno passed away at the age of 89 on Friday morning.

His remains will lie at Sanctuario de San Antonio at Forbes Park in Makati, according to a report from radio dzMM.

Paterno held a seat in the Senate from May 1987 to June 1992 under the rule of former President Corazon Aquino.

He was the Minister of Commerce Industry during the term of former President Ferdinand Marcos from 1974 to 1979. The former senator was also a member of the Interim Batasang Pambansa from 1979 to 1984.

The former senator is the chair of the Philippine Seven Corporation which runs the 7-Eleven convenience stores.
