Public warned vs big waves in N. Luzon

Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The state weather bureau warned the public yesterday against big waves in the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon in the next 24 hours due to the surge of the northeast monsoon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a gale warning over Batanes, Calayan, Babuyan, northern coast of Cagayan, northern coast of Ilocos Norte, Isabela, and eastern coast of Cagayan.

PAGASA said these areas would have “rough to very rough” sea conditions with waves expected to reach as high as 3.4 to 4.5 meters.

“Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out to the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” the agency said.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said no tropical cyclone is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility this week.

However, it said the tail-end of a cold front will continue to bring light to moderate rains over some parts of the country.

PAGASA said Cagayan Valley, Eastern and Central Visayas and the provinces of Aurora, Negros Occidental and Surigao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms.
