MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino will have two more trips abroad and receive leaders of other nations just days after participating in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Myanmar and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China.
Aquino will fly to Singapore on Tuesday to meet with business and other sectors, Malacañang said yesterday.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said over radio dzRB that Aquino would only be in Singapore overnight.
Aquino arrived early morning of Friday from Myanmar where he attended the ASEAN summit following his participation at the APEC summit in China.
On Monday, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will visit the Philippines and meet with Aquino.
Valte said she did not have the details of the visit, but “normally, we talk about how to further people-to-people exchanges, how you can stimulate trade between the two countries, and any other bilateral issues that we may need to further discuss with them.”
Aquino will also fly to South Korea next month to attend the ASEAN-South Korea commemorative summit in Busan.
In December, APEC 2015 activities will start in the Philippines, which is chair and host after China.
Last Sunday, the President attended the APEC Chief Executive Officers’ summit where he spoke about reforms that brought about the country’s economic revitalization and encouraged business leaders to invest in the country.
Aquino also met the president of Vietnam and had business meetings with the officials of Moody’s Corporation, Sanofi and Johnson & Johnson.
Last Monday, Aquino met with the prime ministers of Canada, Thailand, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea in a series of bilateral talks. After which, he attended the APEC Business Advisory Council dialogue with leaders.
During the dialogue, company leaders from the Philippines and other APEC countries brought forward various proposals to further improve business in the region, while government leaders articulated their initiatives to support the growth of enterprises.
The next day, Aquino participated in the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting. The summit provided a venue for APEC leaders to express their views on regional development and economic integration.
“Since our country will be hosting APEC from next month until November 2015, the leaders’ meeting also served as a turnover of hosting duties from China to the Philippines,” Valte said.
The President then flew to Nay Pyi Taw to attend the ASEAN Summit. ASEAN leaders discussed the political and economic development of the region, as well as other concerns such as the West Philippine Sea dispute.
“While there, the President also met with the prime ministers of Japan, Australia and India, as well as with the Filipino community in Myanmar. Through these activities, by strengthening our international relationships, the President continues to invest in the future of our citizens for the benefit of generations to come,” Valte said.
