IN PHOTOS: Juan Flavier returns to DOH
MANILA, Philippines — The remains of Juan Flavier, former Health secretary and senator, was brought to the Department of Health (DOH) complex for a necrological service on Tuesday.
Flavier, who served as the agency's chief from 1992 to 1995 under the administration of President Fidel Ramos, died of multiple organ failure on October 30.
Current Health Secretary Enrique Ona delivered a eulogy in his first public appearance since going on a controversial leave of absence, supposedly to recover from some minor ailments.
In a radio report, Ona was quoted as saying that Flavier, who coined the popular slogan "Let's DOH it" during his term, was a better secretary of health than he is.
DOH Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Eric Tayag, meanwhile, featured the late senator's service on his Instagram account.
Flavier's remains will be at the DOH Convention Center and will be cremated Tuesday night. - Camille Diola
