Flavier’s remains in UP till Monday
MANILA, Philippines - The remains of former senator and health secretary Juan Flavier will lie in state at the Church of the Risen Lord at the University of the Philippines campus in Diliman, Quezon City.
Roby Alampay, Flavier’s son-in-law, said in a Facebook post yesterday that the public may pay their final respects until Monday afternoon.
The Flavier family is discouraging the sending of flowers, in lieu of which contributions to a charity to be announced later may be given, he said.
A mass to be officiated by Ateneo de Manila president Jett Villarin was scheduled last night.
Flavier, one of the most loved public servants in the country, passed away on Thursday afternoon due to multiple organ failure brought about by pneumonia. He was 79.
He was health secretary from 1992 to 1995 under the Ramos administration, and served in the Senate for two terms until 2008.
He remained a board member of PhilHealth and SM Foundation until 2013.
