MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - Eight Korean nationals believed to be involved in the illegal cloning of credit cards were arrested by local authorities in Metro Manila yesterday evening, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said today.
The NBI identified the arrested Korean nationals as Oh Seung Hwan, Eom Jeong Hwan, Jang Juhyun, Jeon Min Su, Yoon Young Jin, Seo In Jae, Kim Ki Hwan, and Cho Myeong Il. They were rounded up during a raid in a house converted into a call center in Quezon City.
NBI agents conducted the raid after receiving information from the Korean community in the country that the suspects were allegedly involved in hacking, credit card cloning, and other cyber-related crimes.
The suspects purportedly sell a non-existent product online and will require prospective buyers to use a credit card. They will then steal the personal information of the buyers to clone their cards.
The NBI said the eight Korean nationals may be part of a syndicate operating in the Philippines.
