MANILA, Philippines - The military will investigate the killing of two civilians by soldiers conducting patrols in New Bataan, Compostela Valley.
Armed Forces Eastern Mindanao Command chief Lt. Gen. Aurelio B. Baladad said the investigating panel would be led by a senior military officer and would include representatives from the local police.
“We enlisted the support of the PNP in the conduct of investigation to ensure transparency and credibility of the result of the investigation,” Baladad said
The victims, identified as Lando Sabado Dangasan, 40, and his 16-year old son Felix, were allegedly killed by soldiers from the 66th Infantry Battalion in Sitio Taytayan, Barangay Andap last Sunday.
Military officials have vowed to cooperate with authorities probing the incident.
Lt. Col. Michael Logico, chief of the Army’s 66th Infantry Battalion, said they have already extended initial assistance to Dangasan family.
He also ordered all military commanders under his command to comply with rules of engagement and the International Humanitarian Law.
