MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is ready to defend the West Philippine Sea, PCG Spokesperson Commander Armando Balilo said.
Balilo noted that even if the West Philippine Sea is an issue of the National Government, the PCG ships are ready ready for deployment.
"But if (we) were given mission like the West Philippine Sea, we will do. We will complement whatever the National Government will ask us to do," Balilo said, adding that the Malacañang Palace has no order yet for the PCG to deploy ships.
The PCG is currently monitoring activities in the West Philippine Sea due to sensitive issues with other countries in the region. Their multi-role vessels are always ready for rescue, environmental protection and patrolling activities.
China recently made claims over the country's territories such in the West Philippine Sea such as the Kalayaan Island Group and Scarborough Shoal.
