Explosion jolts North Cotabato town anew

Jaime Laude - The Philippine Star

KABACAN, North Cotabato, Philippines – Another explosion rocked the town of Libungan in North Cotabato Friday night.

Col. Dickson Hermoso, spokesman for the 6th Infantry Division, said no one was injured but two vehicles were damaged in the blast, which occurred at around 9 p.m.

Hermoso said an unidentified man planted an improvised explosive device under a 10-wheeler truck parked in front of the store at the Libungan Public Market.

Authorities said a group of extortionists could be behind the attack three days after a grenade blast hit the United Church of Christ in the Philippines in Pikit during a religious service.

Two persons – a nurse and a teacher – were killed in the blast while three others suffered shrapnel wounds.
