Binay camp: Only presidential survey score important to us

Louis Bacani - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - For the camp of Vice President Jejomar Binay, his performance and trust ratings are less important than his score in presidential surveys.

Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla, Binay's spokesman, downplayed on Tuesday the 15-percentage point decline in the performance and trust ratings of the Vice President in the latest Pulse Asia poll.

"It doesn't really bother us. Again, what are important to us are the preferential ratings for who will they vote for in 2016," Remulla said in a phone-patch interview with the ABS-CBN News Channel.

"The approval ratings are a point of interest but the preferential ratings are what really concern us," he added.

Remulla claimed that they have their own survey, which shows that Binay enjoys a "tremendous lead over any challenger" in the 2016 presidential race.

According to the poll results, Remulla said Binay garnered 60 percent of the votes while Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas came in a far second with 27 percent.

In the Pulse Asia presidential survey released last week, Binay still emerged as the voters' top choice for the presidency even if his score dipped from 41 percent to 31 percent.

Roxas, meanwhile, saw his rating rise from seven percent to 13 percent.

Binay's ratings drop came after he was accused of pocketing public funds through various projects in Makati City including the allegedly overpriced construction of the Makati City Hall II parking building.
