Jaime Laude - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A passenger ferry sank off Cebu yesterday afternoon after it was battered by big waves, the Philippine Navy said.

As of last night, two Navy ships rescued 31 of 50 passengers aboard the M/V Cruiser Sam and Shorty that sank in the vicinity of Lawis Ledge, Talisay City at 3:20 p.m.

The Navy said search and rescue for the missing passengers continued last night.

“We are exerting all efforts to bring all the passengers on board to safety,” said Navy spokesman Lt. Commander Marideth Domingo.

The ferry was on its way to Clarin, Bohol from Pasil Wharf in Cebu City when it sank.

Those rescued were taken back to Cebu port for treatment.
