(UPDATE) 3 killed, 28 hurt in La Union vehicular accident

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - Three people were killed while 28 others were injured in an accident involving a passenger jeepney in La Union this morning, a police official said.

Superintendent Julius Calima Suriben, director of the San Fernando City police, said the three fatalities were all females.

Suriben said the jeepney was traversing a descending road in Pias village, San Fernando City at 7:45 a.m., today, when it lost its brakes.

He said the injured include the jeepney driver. The driver and the wounded passengers are sent to various hospitals for treatment.
