MANILA, Philippines - The 36-year-old wife of actor and model Derek Ramsay filed Thursday afternoon before the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office her 23-page reply-affidavit on her complaint against the actor for violation of the law against violence on women and children.
In her reply to the counter-affidavit earlier filed by the actor, Mary Christine Jolly Ramsay said the actor’s counter-affidavit is full of “concocted tales” and is in itself proof of how low the actor allegedly considers women.
“Is it not that his base description of his own wife an indication of his mindset, his worldview, his twisted and depraved regard not only for his wife but for women in general? Perhaps Derek mistakes his degrading perception of women as fact,” said Mary in her reply-affidavit.
In her reply-affidavit, Mary also belied Derek’s allegations as contained in his counter affidavit. Mary said that it is not true that she was “completely wasted on alcohol and/or drugs and was literally lying on the sidewalk” when they first met at a bar in Pasong Tamo in Makati.
“The way Derek is reversing the story, in particular by picturing me as doing drugs is astounding. I was just a young 21-year-old student at that time going out with friends on clean night-outs. On the other hand, Derek, this older 25-year old aspiring model, was in fact the one who introduced me to drugs during the relationship by forcing me to take ecstasy whenever he would want to have sex,” she said.
Mary also debunked Derek’s allegation that she was a “groupie” during the time Derek was playing flag football.
“Likewise, to call me a “groupie” and thus, demonize me as a caricature of a sex-crazed woman pursuing football players, reverses the situation of who was sex-crazed to begin with. During the marriage, Derek committed spousal rape against me when he went home drunk one night,” she said.
Mary also debunked Derek’s claims in his counter-affidavit that she was physically and verbally abusive and had violent tendencies.
“Contrary to Derek’s attempt at acquitting himself completely and instead laying all blame on me, I do not pretend that our relationship was smooth and free of the usual marital spats. However in our rocky relationship it was Derek who would always be the aggressor,” she said.
Mary also stressed in her reply-affidavit that her complaint against Derek is more than just a case of support for their now 11-year-old son.
“Derek, in his counter-affidavit would like this Honorable Office to believe that this is a mere case of support that has no relevance to the acts punished under Republic Act 9262 and that he could not be punished for those acts during our courtship and cohabitation since they happened way back in in 2001 and 2002,” she said.
“This is not a mere case of support. Derek uses denial or withdrawal of support or simply making it difficult to access support in order to control his family and make them submissive,” Mary added.
Earlier, Mary, revealed how the actor allegedly abandoned his obligations as a father to their son.
Mary, a former commercial model and now a legal assistant in Dubai, said Derek is criminally liable for violating Republic Act (RA) 9262 or the “Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.”
Mary added that she was also a victim of psychological and physical abuse from Derek.
“This case is about the violence perpetuated by Derek Ramsay against me and my son whom this man abandoned eleven years ago. Republic Act 9262s is clear—very specific in its provisions that the rights of women and children are to be protected against abuses committed against them by anyone. “ said Mary who was born in Las Pinas City but moved to Dubai with her parents when she was 6 years old. Mary later returned to the Philippines to attend college.
Last June 27, Mary filed a complaint against Derek before the Makati City Prosecutors Office for violation of RA 9262.
Mary said she and Derek met at a Makati bar in 2001 while she was still a student at a Makati university. Mary said Derek, at that time, had just been selected as one of the VJs (video jocks) of MTV Philippines.
Mary said she and Derek then got married in 2002 in Balagtas, Bulacan. Afterwards, Mary said, she and Derek then lived in the actor’s Makati apartment.
According to Mary, while she lived with Derek, the actor would often come home drunk from the many parties he attended and even allegedly dated other women.
The relationship ended in 2002 when Mary got all fed up and left the actor’s Makati apartment to join her parents in Dubai. Mary said she was one-month pregnant with the actor’s son.
Mary said she informed Derek of her pregnancy but the actor who was then a commercial model, allegedly ignored her. Mary said she then proceeded with the pregnancy alone.
According to Mary, throughout her stay in Dubai with their son, she has always kept in touch with Derek, However, Derek allegedly continued to ignore her until 2010 when she returned to the Philippines with their the eight-year-old son and confronted him.
“This is not about me. This is about my son, who wants nothing more than assert his rights as a child from his father," said Mary.
Mary said a paternity test conducted in 2010 showed Derek to be the father of Mary’s son. Mary said that after a year, Derek and his parents decided to enter into a settlement with Mary.
However, Mary added that Derek had reneged on his obligations to their son, forcing her to lodge the complaint against him.
“I just want to assert my rights as a mother to my kid. Derek is using his money to influence my son’s behavior. I want to live a normal life again. I just hope that the law will favor and protect us from the abuses committed against us by Derek” Mary said.
