Oct. 6 a holiday for Eid’l Adha
MANILA, Philippines - A long weekend is set in the first week of October.
President Aquino has declared Oct. 6, a Monday, as a regular holiday in observance of the annual Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice for Muslims all over the world.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said Aquino signed Proclamation 875 last Sept. 12 declaring the first Monday of October as a “regular holiday throughout the country.”
The proclamation was based on Republic Act 9849, which provides that Eid’l Adha shall be celebrated as a national holiday, though on a movable date.
The holiday was upon the recommendation of the National Commission for Muslim Filipinos.
Eid’l Adha is one of Islam’s two major festivals celebrated by 1.6 billion Muslims around the world, just before the Hajj pilgrimage ends.
Eid’l Adha is the Feast of Sacrifice, one of the biggest festivals among Muslims and is celebrated on the 10th day of the 12th Islamic month.
