Globe, foundation to give weather updates
MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom has formed a partnership with WeatherPhilippines Foundation to help the public prepare for typhoons by providing them with timely information.
The partnership seeks to create disaster-resilient communities through localized and real time weather updates.
“We are delighted to be a partner of WeatherPhilippines as it is ingrained in Globe Telecom’s sustainability efforts to take care of the community and the environment,” Globe corporate communications senior vice president Yoly Crisanto said in a statement.
“This is a very important endeavor that will enable organizations and local government units to increase their readiness and resilience whenever disaster strikes,” she said.
A memorandum of agreement that would implement the partnership was signed recently by Crisanto, WeatherPhilippines general manager Celso Caballero III and WeatherPhilippines president and Aboitiz Group chief reputation and risk officer Susan Valdez.
Globe will provide text and data plans that can be used by 420 automated weather stations to give accurate data on wind speed and direction, average rainfall, temperature, pressure, solar radiation and humidity within two- to 15-kilometer radius every 10 minutes.
Globe said the project’s scope is expected to expand as WeatherPhilippines is planning to install more weather stations across the Philippines.
