MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Monday ordered the grounding of 15 units of a bus firm for the fatal accident last Sunday in Quezon province.
Lawyer Ariel Inton, one of the LTFRB board members, said they have decided to impose a 30-day preventive suspension order on the units covered by the franchise of Raymond Bus after one of its units figured in the mishap.
Inton said that aside from the suspension order, the board also issued a show cause order on the owners of the bus firm to explain why should their franchise not be revoked.
"If the Board is not satisfied with their explanation, it would result to the revocation of the firm's franchise," he said.
Reports showed that two passengers were killed while over 40 others were injured after a Raymond bus plunged into a 100-foot ravine while speeding along Zigzag Road, Sitio Upper Sapinit, Barangay Silangang Malicboy, Pagbilao, Quezon.
The bus was going to Manila from Masbate when the accident happened around 3:15 a.m. last Sunday.
Inton said the Board will serve the suspension order to the bus firm on Tuesday.
