MANILA, Philippines - Senator Grace Poe went through the morning rush hour on Friday onboard a train of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT3).
According to her staff, the senator took the MRT around 8:20 a.m. from North Avenue station to Taft Avenue station, where more than 30 passengers were injured after a train overshot the railway tracks early this month.
Poe's staff said she rode the train to "gain firsthand experience of the current situation of MRT commuters" in preparation for the Senate hearing on the train mishap.
Poe will chair the Senate public services sub-committee on transportation which will conduct the hearing on Monday, September 1.
She also filed Senate bill 2266 that calls for the creation of a National Transportation Safety Board that will investigate and report on air, road, and sea accidents as well as those involving pipeline, railroad and tracked vehicles. -Louis Bacani
