MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno S. Aquino III has appointed University of the Philippines (UP) associate law professor Florin Hilbay as acting solicitor general, Malacañang announced on Wednesday.
Hilbay, a senior state solicitor, argued and won the case for the Reproductive Health Law before the Supreme Court in 2013.
Before joining the Office of the Solicitor General, Hilbay was the director of the Institute of Government and Law Reform of the UP Law Center.
Hilbay teaches constitutional law and philosophy of law at UP, where he earned his law degree in 1999. He obtained his Master of Laws from Yale Law School in 2005.
He replaces former Solicitor General Francis Jardeleza, who has been appointed as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. -Louis Bacani
