PAL honors OFWs
MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Airlines (PAL) flew a woman and her daughter to Singapore last week to be with her husband, part of the airline’s tribute to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) as modern-day heroes.
Angela Patricia and Princess Saldua left a week ago after PAL gave them two round-trip tickets.
They were met at the airport by Amiel Saldua, the padre de familia who has been a chef in a restaurant in Singapore for the past 10 years.
“We are very thankful to PAL for sponsoring our flights to Singapore to be with my husband,” Angela said.
Princess said they “are very proud of my father, who left when I was still a child so I can study in a good school.”
Amiel thanked PAL for flying his family to Singapore to be with him.
“You never know how happy I am right now,” he said. “This will be an experience that I will never forget.”
PAL sources said the best gift a new hero like Amiel could receive is to be reunited with family.
“So PAL selected this young family, a typical family of an OFW who left his wife and a daughter to fulfill his dream to give them a better life in the future,” a source said.
Amiel and Angela were married 11 years ago and he left for Singapore when Princess was born. He went home on vacation every two years.
PAL’s good deed is part of today’s celebration of National Heroes Day.
